The Productive Mental Health Ward was launched across the NHS in September 2008. The programme was developed by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement to help staff in mental health wards to redesign and improve the way they work. By reducing time spent on activities that do not add value to the patient and staff experience, the programme helps mental health ward teams deliver more meaningful care and increase the level of therapeutic engagement they have with patients.
Following a keynote introduction from Maureen Davies Deputy Chief Nurse NHS London Strategic Health Authority the conference will provide lessons on how The Productive Mental Health Ward can be implemented effectively across a variety of sites and different mental health care settings. NHS Mental Health organisations will share their knowledge and experience of implementing the programme and the successes they have achieved for patients and staff. The conference will conclude with an outline of the new impact measurement tool that will be made available to mental health organisation in 2010.
